Stephen Pruitt: A Cartography of Solitude is a collection of photos and stories, presented at Prizer Arts and Letters May 14 to June 19, 2021.
The images are from solo travels and feature landscapes that have signs of civilization, but the people are long gone. The eight featured images are printed on aluminum plates as black and white matte finish images, by a printer in Kansas City who specializes in metal printing.
Accompanying the images are several of Stephen's stories about the various places, and the idea of solitude. Other artists and storytellers are contributing their own stories, so the collection is growing over the course of the installation. The stories are broadcast on a low power FM transmitter, so that anyone can listen in at any time during the run, by tuning in to 88.3 FM
In addition to the regular gallery hours (12-5 Saturday and Sunday, or by appointment), the installation is lit from dusk to 11:30pm for night time viewing through the front windows.
